Planning the journey from El Catey Airport to Las Terrenas starts with three details: your flight, your exact accommodation address and a confirmed pickup arrangement. Sorting these out before departure leaves fewer decisions for the moment you walk out with your luggage.

This guide explains what to check when organizing your arrival. It does not quote a transport fare, advertise a shuttle timetable or establish that an airport transfer is included in an El Retiro booking.

Check the airport code: AZS

The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism identifies El Catey International Airport as AZS, also known as Juan Bosch International Airport. Its official airport guide places it approximately 30 minutes from Las Terrenas by road. Treat that as a destination-level estimate, not a guaranteed journey time to your particular property.

Check the airport code on your actual flight confirmation. The same official guide lists Las Américas in Santo Domingo as SDQ and Punta Cana as PUJ. A flight to either of those airports is a different arrival plan; do not arrange an AZS pickup for a ticket showing another code.

Compare the complete journey before booking

When comparing flights, include the onward journey in your decision. Ask a transport provider for the estimated travel time and current quote from the airport you are considering to your exact address. Compare the total cost and the arrival hour, rather than the flight price alone.

Verify flight availability with the airline for your dates. This article does not establish direct routes, operating days or seasonal schedules. If your travel plans involve a connection, check the full itinerary before coordinating pickup.

Ask for a clear transfer quote

Send the provider your arrival date, flight number, passenger count, luggage needs and destination. Ask whether the quote covers a private vehicle or a shared service, and whether the amount is per person or for the whole vehicle. Confirm the currency and accepted payment method.

Clarify what the price includes, such as waiting time, any road charges and any stops you request. If you need a child seat, accessible transport or room for bulky luggage, ask about that specific requirement before accepting the arrangement. Keep the provider’s written confirmation with your booking details.

Agree on the meeting point and delay plan

Ask where you should meet the driver after arrival, how you will recognize them and which contact to use if you cannot find each other. Save those details somewhere you can access without relying on an unfamiliar Wi-Fi connection.

Check whether the provider monitors your flight and what happens if it is delayed or changed. Confirm how much waiting is included and when an extra charge might apply. A clear meeting plan is more useful than a general instruction to look for someone outside.

Coordinate the last part of the journey

Request the accommodation’s exact location and check-in instructions. Share the location with your transport provider and confirm that the quotation covers that destination. Ask the host who will be available to receive you at your expected arrival time.

Keep the arrival day flexible. An outing can wait until you know how the journey has gone. If you want ideas for later in your stay, our Playa Cosón planning guide is a separate beach-day resource; it is not part of an airport transfer.

Plan the return separately

Give the provider your departure flight details and confirm the pickup time together, allowing for the airline’s airport arrival guidance and local travel conditions. Do not assume an arrival transfer automatically includes a return journey.

For an October retreat inquiry, message El Retiro on WhatsApp with OCTOBER. Ask for the current program, accommodation address and arrival arrangements before booking transport. Confirm separately whether any transfer is included or available at an additional cost.

Once your journey is arranged, use our retreat packing checklist to organize the items you want within easy reach.
